At midday: TSX slides to one-month low as materials drag
Canada’s main stock index tumbled to its lowest point in over a month on Tuesday, dragged down by weakness in materials shares, as investors remained cautious due to heightened tensions in the Middle East.
At 10:36 a.m. ET, the Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index was down 178.14 points, or 0.82%, at 21,562.06.
The material sector, which houses metal miners and fertilizer companies, fell 2.1%, pulled down by miners as prices of both gold and base metals retreated.
